I finally reached the point in my craft room where I was tired of opening every drawer just to find the one thing I needed. Sound familiar?

I have a decent number of drawers, and while I kind of knew what was in them, it just wasn’t working anymore — especially when I was in the middle of a project and needed to find something quickly. Plus, I wanted the space to look as creative as it feels. That’s when I decided to make custom drawer labels that were not only functional, but also pretty enough to match the vibe of my space.

Here’s how I created my drawer labels from scratch — no video-making required, just some digital tools, a bit of printing, and a whole lot of satisfaction.

🌸 Why I Needed Drawer Labels

I wanted to:

  • Know what was in each drawer at a glance

  • Add some visual style to my workspace

  • Make the most of the organization systems I already had in place

  • Cut down on the time I spend digging through drawers mid-project

And let’s be real — decorating is part of the fun!

🛠️ What I Used

  • Sterilite Storage Drawer, 3 Drawer Slim Plastic Storage Cart with Clear Pull Out Drawers, White

  • ChatGPT: to generate themed image prompts based on the drawer contents

  • Leonardo AI: to turn those prompts into cohesive, feminine, custom artwork

  • Epson ET-8550: to print in high quality (and yes, I used regular ink)

  • Legal size copy paper: for the larger drawer panel size

  • Thermal laminating sheets: to protect and strengthen the labels

  • Thermal laminator: to seal the inserts into the thermal pouch

  • Paper trimmer/scissors: to cut them down to size

  • Final image size: 12.375 x 6.875 inches — sized to fit my drawer fronts perfectly but measure your drawers and use a plain sheet of paper for perfect sizing before using any materials.

🎨 My Design Process

I used a consistent prompt format that kept everything cohesive and on-brand with my craft room colors (pink, orange, coral, teal, and brown). Each label included:

  • A soft watercolor-style background

  • Decorative accents that match the drawer contents (like scissors for sewing gadgets, rulers for measuring tools, etc.)

  • The drawer name in a modern, graceful script

  • Clean design with space for the eye to rest — not too busy

I’ll be honest: ChatGPT made the wording easy, and Leonardo AI brought the vision to life. It felt like collaborating with a creative assistant who never gets tired!

BASE CHATGPT PROMPT:

A beautifully designed, feminine label image for a craft room drawer labeled '[Your Drawer Label Here]'. The background features a soft, elegant blend of pink, orange, coral, teal, and brown from the craft room’s color palette. Delicate watercolor or floral elements in these tones frame the image. In the center, the word(s) '[Your Drawer Label Here]' appear in a graceful, modern script font. Subtle illustrations of related items (e.g., [insert relevant tools or materials]) are woven into the background as decorative accents. The overall look is clean, artistic, and feminine, perfectly suited for a stylish, well-organized craft space.

How to Use:

  1. Replace [Your Drawer Label Here] with the category (e.g., Embroidery, Adhesives & Tape, Sewing Patterns).

  2. Fill in [insert relevant tools or materials] with items that match the drawer contents.

  3. Keep the color palette and styling for visual cohesion across all labels.

Once I had the prompt just the way I wanted it, I copied and pasted it into the Leonardo AI image generator. I’m able to control the size, style, and contrast of the images to make sure it’s just right.

🖨️ Printing & Finishing

I printed everything on legal-size paper to make sure it fit across the full width of my drawers. The ET-8550 gave me beautiful, vibrant color payoff. After printing, I laminated each label to protect it from smudges, dust, or accidental scratches — especially since some drawers are stuffed to the brim.

Once laminated, I trimmed them down to 12.375 x 6.875 inches and slipped them into the drawer fronts. No glue. No tape. It fits just right. DONE.

🧵 The Result

My drawers are now beautifully labeled, and I can find exactly what I need in seconds. Even better — every time I walk into the room, it feels inspiring and put-together. The labels reflect the creative energy I want to bring into every project.

🧠 Final Thoughts

If you’re drowning in supplies but love your space, drawer labels are one of the simplest ways to bring function and beauty together. It’s not just about being organized — it’s about creating a space that works with you, not against you.

Whether you're into sewing, embroidery, sublimation, or all of the above like me, a little labeling goes a long way.

And if you're not into designing from scratch — let AI lend a hand. I’m happy to share the base prompt I used so you can make your own!
